Strategic Operations - the old book is advanced aerospace, repair and refit, and Battleforce. The most useful thing the advanced rules book contains is the rules for artillery and minefields BMM has a simplified form of those rules. You'll likely want the latter one to know how all the gear works as you get further in the timeline, but the former is quite skippable. One is "here's a bunch of super crunchy rules if you really want to ramp up the simulation" and one is "here's a bunch of more interesting tech and how to use it if you see it on a record sheet". Honestly you're better off grabbing MegaMek Lab or Solaris Skunk Werks to handle all the accounting (especially BV calcs).
